VIRTUAL AND IN PERSON PERSONAL TRAINING

"Play Like an Adult"/"ProLong Activity"... PLA

A hard pill to swallow

A properly designed strength training program is the closest thing there is to a true fountain of youth; but unfortunately, most people see exercise as a means of cosmetic alteration. The harsh truth is body composition, general shape, and muscular development are thirty (30) to eighty-five (85) percent (genetically) set in stone. I encourage clients to focus on their functional assets, potential for longevity, and quality of life as opposed to developing 23 inch biceps or pot roast pecs like Lou Ferigno. And speaking of bodybuilders, even seasoned Mr. Olympia contenders never develop the bodies of their dreams. Arnold Schwarzenegger had mediocre quad (thigh) development, Sean Ray had high calves, Dorian Yates had under-sized biceps and so did Lee Haney — we’re all limited by genetics to some extent or another. I tend to be somewhat muscular, but I stopped trying to maximize my muscle size over a decade ago. At age 54, any muscular development I have is just a genetic trait, because I’m too old to annihilate my joints with high volume bodybuilder type training. Some people have GREAT genetic potential, some have AVERAGE to GOOD genetic potential, and some have ZERO genetic potential. Pounding your muscles into oblivion, in hopes that you’ll eventually have arms like Popeye is a FOOL’S ERRAND, unless your genetics dictate such an undertaking. And if you DO have the genetics, excessive muscle overload will be unnecessary anyway, as “Mother Nature” has already met you half way. It’s time for people to face that fact and start training intelligently, because once you’ve destroyed your joints, it’s game over. PLA MIND AND BODYWURKS will show you the way.

Functional strength/Functional age

If you’re 50, it’s possible to have a functional age of 30 or younger. If you’re 70, your functional age can be 50 or so — so forth and so on. This is tethered to the pursuit of functional strength which is your kinesiological (human movement) adeptitude in real life physical scenarios.

People often take movement and physical well being for granted

Hip and spinal mobility is often overlooked, and for those with sciatica, taking pressure off the sciatic nerve is a real possibility. You accomplish this by strengthening the erector spinae; particularly the lower region.

Joint health is extremely important

Let’s do something about those aching knees!

Leave sessions feeling relaxed and invigorated

I perform passive stretching as well as foam rolling (foam roll massage) at the end of in person sessions.
